The History of Montegufoni

Montegufoni, an awesome castle with a magnificent tower built on the model of the one of Palazzo Vecchio in Florence. This is a historic castle and its structure is dated back to 12th century. The villa being a historic monument has been in different possession till date.

In 17th century its possession was in the hands of a noble family called the family of Acciaioli they transformed this castle into a beautiful villa. The family made Montegufoni their holiday exit for hot summers. Again in the beginning of the 20th century, an English noble family known as Sitwell acquired the possession of the castle and restored it back to a castle returning its charm and the vintage feel. Motegufoni has also served as a depository for the Uffizi masterpiece during world war 2

Finally in 1972, the Posarelli family bought the castle and opened it to tourists with an intention of letting people all over the world enjoy its beauty, history and its art. The castle is also a part of a large estate in Chianti which produces wines and olive oil.
